Chantilly. Coming out of the forest and discovering this superb Renaissance Style Chateau is a real feast for the eyes. The collections, including a Virgin by Raphael, are worth a visit. The park is one of the famous landscaper Le Notre. Children will love the meadow of the kangaroos. Chantilly is  the French capital of thoroughbred horses.

Thousands of them are trained here in the forest and on  horse track.

Built in the 18th century the Great Stables (Grandes Ecuries) offers its nicest façade on the side of the horse track. They now house a superb museum: Living Museum of Horses. Pedagogical shows of equistian art, held under the cupola are worth attending (only in French).

If you decide to follow your journey after Chantilly, several surprises are expecting you: the medieval town of Senlis , the Imperial city of Compiegne and a very impressive stronghold by the lovely village of Pierrefonds .
